The return of David Krejci to this team and his second-line center spot has been a significant reason for the Bruins’ hot start to the season. The veteran center returned to Boston after a year away and has not missed a step as he’s picked up where he left off before heading back to his home country for a one-year sabbatical from the NHL.
The veteran forward has been dealing with an injury lately, as which caused him to miss Sunday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights. It is being reported that he sustained a lower-body injury that has been nagging him. After not being seen on the ice for the morning skate on Tuesday, head coach Jim Montgomery shared an official update on his second-line center.
As per Conor Ryan of The Boston Sports Journal:
Montgomery: Krejci out tonight. If it was the playoffs, he’d likely play. Bruins just want to be ”precautionary.”
The good news is the Bruins are just being precautionary with the 36-year-old, as there is no reason to rush him back. The Bruins currently sit atop the NHL with a 22-4-1 record and 45 points. On the season, Krejci has registered eight goals and 13 assists in 23 games. He has also provided stability on the second line and has given David Pastrnak, the facilitator, a great goal-scorer like himself needs. With an assist in Colorado last Wednesday, he became the ninth player in Bruins history to record 750 points with the franchise.
There’s no need to panic about the injury as he will miss his second straight game but should be good to go sooner rather than later. Expect him to be day-to-day as he rests and works through whatever is nagging him and keeping him from performing at 100 percent.
The Bruins face off against the New York Islanders tonight at 7 PM EST at TD Garden and look to get back on track after losing two of their last four games.
