The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers struck a deal on Friday Afternoon. The Canadiens sent forward Jacob Perreault to Edmonton in exchange for defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer. This deal comes hours after Perreault was assigned to the Trois-Rivieres Lions. Perrault will head to the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL, and Hoefenmayer will likely join the Laval Rocket. This is a swamp of AHL-caliber players.

Hoefenmayer, 25, has spent his entire five-year career between the ECHL and AHL, with his last two seasons coming in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes. In 149 games with the Toronto Marlies and Bakersfield Condors, the North York, Ontario, native has put up 21 goals and 51 assists for 72 points. In 69 career ECHL games with the Wichita Thunder and Newfoundland Growlers, he put up 15 goals and 35 assists for 50 points. Expect Hoefenmayer to be a depth piece for the Rocket moving forward this season.

Jacob Perrault will get a fresh start as he joins his third organization in the last three years after spending time in the Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks organizations after being drafted by Montreal in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Perreault,22, has spent his last five years at the AHL level with the San Diego Gulls and Laval Rocket, where he’s put up 33 goals and 60 assists for 93 points in 180 games. He would play in one game at the NHL level with the Ducks during the 2021-22 season. The Montreal native began the season with the Trois-Rivieres Lions of the ECHL, where he put up a goal and four assists for five points in five games before being called up to Laval. In six games in Laval, he failed to find the scoresheet and was assigned back to the Lions earlier today before being dealt to the Oilers.
