The Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators agreed on a trade on Wednesday night. The Predators are sending defenseman Alexandre Carrier to the Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Justin Barron.
The Predators announced the deal just before the NHL’s holiday roster freeze, which occurs on Thursday.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Barron produced 13 goals and 18 assists in 111 career regular season games. The 23-year-old spent his time in Montreal split between the NHL club and American Hockey League’s Laval Rocket after arriving via trade from the Colorado Avalanche in 2022. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native has one goal in 17 NHL games this season.
The 28-year-old Alexandre Carrier has one goal and six assists in 28 games this season. The Quebec City native totaled 11 goals and 58 assists in 245 regular season games in Nashville. The Predators selected him in the fourth round, 115th overall, of the 2015 NHL draft. Carrier has one goal and six assists this season and is a minus-14.
