The Montreal Canadiens have announced that forward Emil Heineman will miss three to four weeks with an upper-body injury after being hit by a car in Salt Lake City yesterday. Montreal plays the Utah Hockey Club tonight in Utah—this is one of those injuries you don’t see every day.

Heineman, 23, is in his first full season with Montreal, as he’s put up 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points in 41 games. The former second-round pick of the Habs back in 2020 also played in 59 games at the AHL level with the Laval Rocket, where he put up 22 goals and 16 assists for 38 points in 59 games.

Micheal Pezzetta will enter the lineup tonight. In seven games this season, the Toronto native has yet to find the scoresheet. His last point came on April 2nd, 2024. In 182 NHL games, Pezzetta has 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points and 223 PIMs. He has 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 115 games at the AHL level.

What Does This Mean For Montreal

Pezzetta will provide more of a physical presence to the Montreal lineup than Heineman, who plays a more offensive game. I would expect the Habs to recall someone from Laval in the near future, seeing that they don’t have any other healthy forwards on the roster.

Montreal will play tonight in Utah and Thursday in Dallas before returning home on Saturday to play the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Opinion: Oilers’ Stuart Skinner Showing Some Steadiness Between the Pipes

When it comes to Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner, one never knows what they are going to get. On one hand, one might see a version of Skinner, 26, who stands tall, comes up with big saves, does not get out of position, and does not allow soft goals. When this version of Skinner is […]
