The Montreal Canadiens and defenseman Jayden Struble have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, one-way deal worth $1.4 million. This deal carries him through the 2026-27 season. Struble, 23, spent the majority of last season with the Canadiens, putting up two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 56 games. His 13 points were a career-high. He also played in two games last season with the Laval Rocket. Struble was the only Canadien who had filed for arbitration.
Heading into next season, Struble will likely be a seventh or eighth defenseman for Montreal who can provide some size and physicality on the blueline. Last season, he finished the season with 124 hits, which was fifth on the Canadiens, tied with forward Jake Evans. The second-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2019 will be entering his fourth pro season. In 112 games with the Canadiens, he’s put up five goals and 18 assists for 23 points. He’s also seen action in two career Stanley Cup Playoff games. At the AHL level, he’s played in 24 games, where he’s put up a goal and seven assists for eight points, while also playing in two Calder Cup Playoff games with the Rocket.
Prior to going pro, the Cumberland, RI, native spent his four seasons in the NCAA with Northeastern University. He would put up nine goals and 39 assists for 48 points in 104 games with the Huskies. In 2022, the Huskies won a Hockey East regular-season championship, which was Strubles’ best season, where he put up three goals and 11 assists for 14 points.
