The Miami University (OH) RedHawks have completed their non-conference schedule with a record of 3-5-2 (0.400) as they prepare to enter NCHC play. They will face tougher competition in the NCHC, going up against several Top 25 teams, including Denver, St. Cloud State, and Colorado College. The RedHawks will begin their NCHC play on the road against the St. Cloud State Huskies at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. This two-game series starts on Friday, November 8th, at 8:30 PM ET, with the second game scheduled for Saturday, November 9th, at 7:00 PM ET.

One of the biggest takeaways from non-conference play has been the RedHawks’ improved penalty kill, successfully stopping 35 of 38 penalties (92.1%) this season. Their power play has also performed well, converting 10 of 42 attempts (23.8%), ranking as the second-best in college hockey in total goals. However, St. Cloud State’s power play has struggled, converting only 3 of 26 attempts (11.5%). However, the Huskies have faced tougher opponents, having recently been swept by the #2 ranked Boston College, with scores of 4-1 and 2-1.

The RedHawks also lost last weekend, suffering a sweep at the hands of the RPI Engineers on home ice. Despite outshooting the Engineers 31 to 17 on Saturday night, they lost 2-1 in a game they felt they should have won. As they head into their first NCHC series, maintaining strong defensive play at the blue line and increasing offensive possession will be crucial, especially against St. Cloud State. It will be important for them to generate shots on goal, targeting Huskies’ goaltender Isak Posch, who has played all nine games this season, holding a record of 6 wins and 3 losses with a save percentage of 93.7%.

This upcoming weekend marks Anthony Noreen’s first opportunity to experience what many consider the best conference in college hockey during his first season with the Miami RedHawks. The team’s performance in non-conference play has not been ideal, with several losses decided by one goal, including two in overtime. As they enter this challenging NCHC schedule, the RedHawks will discover their true identity, and Anthony Noreen is ready to embrace this challenge with his club.
