The Boston Bruins have been at or near the 32nd-ranked prospect pool in the NHL for a few seasons. Currently, many hockey insiders have them at dead last. Former prospects Matt Poitras and Mason Lohrei have NHL experience under their belts and should become solid players in the league; however, the next group of young players seems to be several years away from making any impact in Boston. However, one new prospect might enter the pool of the top five in the organization right away: Will Zellers.
Forward Will Zellers was acquired on March 7 from the Colorado Avalanche as part of a trade that sent veteran Charlie Coyle back to the Avs. Zellers is a skilled offensive player finishing his second impressive season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. These are the same Gamblers that Bruins’ defenseman Mason Lohrei played for when Boston drafted him in 2020.

Zellers’ Background
Zellers is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward from Maple Grove, Minnesota, who totaled 111 points in 54 games with the Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep team during the 2023-24 season. Over the past two seasons with Green Bay, Zellers has totaled 134 points in 94 games after being drafted in the second round of the USHL Futures Draft in 2022. Zellers is a gifted puck handler and has what is developing as an elite shot. The Bruins might have obtained a hot prospect at the deadline this season.
Zellers is a left-shot sniper committed to the University of North Dakota and will enter in the fall. Zellers will be joining one of the top programs in the NCAA and will be able to showcase his talents. The 18-year-old, 2024 third-round draft pick is an intriguing young player in an organization that desperately needs him to develop into a legitimate NHL player.
