In a game full of firsts and after being the only undefeated team in the league this season being put to an end previously, the Sirens hosted the Sceptres on Wednesday, December 18th, securing a 4-2 victory. The Sceptres were handed their second-straight loss; the first of the two losses had been against the Minnesota Frost 6-3 on December 7th. Noora Tulus, Emmy Fecteau, Micah Zandee-Hart, and Jamie Bourbonnais each found the back of the net for New York. Both Hannah Miller and Emma Woods scored for Toronto to avoid getting shutout. The Sceptres head home on Saturday to host the Montreal Victoire, and the Sirens host the Minnesota Frost on Sunday.

After a scoreless first period, Noora Tulus opened the scoring with the first of her career to put New York ahead 1-0 early in the middle frame. Sarah Fillier carried the puck from around behind the net and down just below the right circle before sending it off to Alex Carpenter, who attempted to send it past Kristen Campbell, failing to make it in, and Tulus got ahold of the puck, finding the back of the net at 17:03. Emmy Fecteau put in a rebound to make it a 2-0 lead for the Sirens after the puck was sent up into the neutral zone where Fecteau got the puck, passing it to Chloe Aurard, who’s pass had been interrupted when it hit off of Lauren Bernard, deflecting to Jade Downie-Landry, who shot and Campbell saved it. Fecteau collected the rebound and quickly sent it in at the left corner of the net with 12:43 on the clock. Not too long after New York’s second tally, Micah Zandee-Hart extended it to 3-0 at 11:49 with a power-play goal when she shot from the blue line for her first PWHL goal. With little time remaining in the second, Jamie Bourbonnais increased the Sirens’ lead to 4-0 on a 5-on-3 when she took a pass from Maja Nylen Persson, and her initial shot had been saved by Campbell, but she got ahold of the puck again, fired it, and picked up her first of the season.
Hannah Miller pulled one back for the Sceptres going top shelf early into the third at 17:22 when she collected the puck in the left circle, quickly sending it in past Corinne Schroeder. With 33.2 seconds left to play, Emma Woods struck against her former team for her first with Toronto after an attempt by Miller. Woods shoved in a rebound at the left side of the net for the 4-2 final.
Notes:
– Corinne Schroeder made a total of 27 saves for New York. …Schroeder is the first PWHL goaltender to three wins, sitting tied for the league lead with 113 saves.
– Kristen Campbell made 17 saves for Toronto, allowing four on 21 shots, before Raygan Kirk took her place in net, making nine saves in relief.
– Hannah Miller had a two-point night, picking up both a goal and an assist.
– Noora Tulus’ goal is not only her first career goal but also serves as her first-ever PWHL point.
– Sarah Fillier and Alex Carpenter both extended their season-opening point streaks to four games. Fillier leads the league with seven points, while Carpenter sits in second with six. …Micah Zandee-Hart also extended her season-opening point streak to four games, leading all defenders with five points, and sits tied for third in overall scoring.
– Last season, the Sceptres spoiled the Sirens’ home opener with a 3-2 win. This game featured the league’s first shorthanded ‘Jailbreak Goal’, which had been scored by Emma Maltais.
– The Sirens have scored four in all of their wins this season. …The Sceptres have been outshot in their past three games, all regulation losses.
– Emma Woods, who scored against her former team in this game, had joined the Sceptres as a free agent in the off-season after spending season one with New York.
– Renata Fast extended her season-opening streak to four games, sitting tied for fifth in league scoring and tied for first on the Sceptres with Hannah Miller.
– This was the first home game for the Sirens this season and their third game at Prudential Center after going 1-0-0-1 at the venue last season.
