Boston Bruins News & Notes:
The Bruins have won three of their last four games, but it might be fool’s gold as they’ve been drastically outshot (160-99) over that span. The Bruins’ defensive identity hasn’t been there all season long from poor goaltending to bad puck management and turnovers, the Bruins are 23rd in goals against this season a far cry from the top 10 defensive team Boston has been for years. This is the worst defensive Bruins team since the 2015-2016 season when the Bruins finished 19th in goals against, currently, the Bruins are 23rd. If the Bruins want to keep their tenuous spot in the Playoffs secured Boston needs to improve substantially at keeping the puck out of their net.
New Jersey Devils News & Notes:
New Jersey has hit a rough patch in an otherwise good season, the Devils have lost four in a row as they welcome the Bruins to Prudential Center tonight. The Devils are 2-5-3 in their last ten games but have played well on home ice this year with a record of 13-8-4. This is the first of three meetings between these clubs this season and it’s an important game for both sides.

Players To Watch:
Boston Bruins
David Pastrnak is Boston’s offense this season, and lately, the 28-year-old winger has been hot. Pastrnak was the NHL’s third star of the week and has 11 points over his last four games (5g, 6a). Pastrnak has goals in four straight games and has nine goals in January which is among the league leaders in that category. The native of Havirov, Czechia, leads the Bruins in points with 53 in 48 games and is on pace for a 38-goal, 91-point season after a slow start.
New Jersey Devils
Dougie Hamilton is having a bounce-back year after missing most of the 2023-2024 season due to injury. The 31-year-old former Bruin has 29 points (6g, 23a) in 49 games for the Devils. It’s a far cry from his 22-23 season, where Hamilton had 74 points in 82 games, but he’s finally healthy again and is starting to find his game again. The six-foot-six defenseman hasn’t faced the Bruins since the 22-23 season when he collected two assists in three games against the team that drafted him 9th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.
