Boston Bruins News & Notes:

The Bruins are falling out of playoff contention and aren’t helping themselves by losing five in a row as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins. Boston is 9-15-3 on the road this season and will play ten of their fourteen games this month away from TD Garden. It doesn’t appear to be a recipe for success unless the Bruins can miraculously turn their season around soon.

Pittsburgh Penguins News & Notes:

The Penguins snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Flyers. Pittsburgh is 14-12-4 at home this season and is 4-5-1 in their last ten games. This afternoon’s game is the second of three meetings between these clubs. The Penguins won the first meeting 2-1 in Boston on November 29.

Players To Watch:

Boston Bruins

At this particular moment and for much of the season, David Pastrnak has been the only Bruin worth watching. The 28-year-old winger should receive Hart Trophy consideration for keeping a flawed Bruins squad in playoff contention for as long as they’ve been. Pastrnak just netted his 800th career point in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders while extending a league-best 16-game point streak. “Pasta” is 4th in the league with 31 goals and tied for 5th in the NHL in scoring with 73 points in 60 games.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Evgeni Malkin had three goals and four assists in four games in February since returning from injury. The 38-year-old pivot had four points, including the overtime game-winner, to snap the Penguins’ four-game losing streak. Malkin has 41 points (12g, 29a) in 51 games this season and scored a goal in Pittsburgh’s victory over Boston the first time they met.

Edmonton Oilers Playoff Thoughts: Round 3, Game 4

Over the last few years, it’s been a running joke for Edmonton Oilers fans that an afternoon game is always a guaranteed loss for the team. A 6-1 victory is certainly no joke, however.
