Players To Watch:

Buffalo Sabres

Tage Thompson was snubbed for Team USA in the 4 Nations Tournament but has used the slight as motivation, scoring three goals and adding three assists in four games this month. The 6-foot-7 Phoenix, Arizona native leads the Sabres in scoring with 51 points (28g, 23a) in just 50 games as the 27-year-old has missed some time with injuries.

Carolina Hurricanes

Mikko Rantanen has struggled since his trade to Carolina. The 28-year-old winger has only three points (1g, 2a) in eight games with the Hurricanes. The ‘Canes will have to make a decision soon on the talented native of Nousiainen, Finland – if they can’t agree on a contract extension, will they move him at the trade deadline? Or play out the string and try to win a Stanley Cup and hope the two sides can work something out at a later date? It’s a difficult situation to be in if you’re GM Eric Tulsky.
