Calgary Flames Notes:

The first “Battle of Alberta” takes place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, where the Oilers are considered favorites. Edmonton has won 5 of the last 6 against Calgary. However, the Flames come into the matchup with some momentum with a 2-0-0 record so far on the young season.

Edmonton Oilers Notes:

Edmonton may have a Stanley Cup Final hangover as they’ve started 0-2-0 out of the gate. Edmonton has some defensive issues (11 goals allowed in 2 games played) they need to get sorted out if they want to make another deep run in the playoffs and potentially take home the Cup.

Zary-Backlund-Coleman
Huberdeau-Pospisil-Mantha

Players To Watch:

Calgary – Jonathan Huberdeau was quiet in his first few seasons in Calgary after coming over from Florida in the blockbuster Matthew Tkachuk trade but finally seems to be comfortable and is producing early in the 2024-25 season. Huberdeau has three goals and 2 assists for 5 points in two games in the young season. Huberdeau returning to form could go a long way toward Calgary returning to the postseason.

Edmonton – Connor McDavid has yet to get going in the 2024-25 season, his team was shut out by Winnipeg in the opener and then McDavid only managed one assist in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. It’s possible a rivalry game like the “Battle of Alberta” could give McDavid the extra juice he needs to get his game going in the right direction.

Injuries:

C Kevin Rooney – IR – Est. return October 19

Edmonton
LW Evander Kane – LTIR Month To Month – Est. return February 22
