Colorado Avalanche News & Notes:

The Avalanche made a blockbuster trade shipping out Mikko Rantanen for forwards Martin Necas, Jack Drury, and a second-round draft pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Carolina received Rantanen and Taylor Hall from Chicago, with the Blackhawks retaining 50% of Rantanen’s $9.25 million salary, while Chicago received a 3rd round pick back from the Hurricanes. The new players got on the ice right away with the Avalanche losing 3-1 to the Bruins on Saturday afternoon. It will take some time for Avalanche players to get over the shock of the trade and try to integrate Necas and Drury into the fold.

New York Rangers News & Notes:

The Rangers have won two games in a row and four of their last five contests as they thrust themselves back into playoff contention after being left for dead. New York is 7-0-3 in their last ten games but it may be too little, too late after digging such a deep hole to climb out of, there are nine teams in the Eastern Conference fighting for the two wild-card spots.
