Edmonton Oilers News & Notes:

The injury bug is making its presence known for the Edmonton Oilers as they continue to lose key players. Adding injury to insult was Mattias Ekholm’s undetermined status, where it is reported that he could be out for quite some time with a serious injury.

Outside of injury troubles, Edmonton locked up a playoff spot with a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on April 11th. The Oilers locked in their playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Kings for the fourth consecutive postseason late Saturday night.

Edmonton has scored 3.2 goals per game, which is ranked 11th in the NHL, while allowing 2.9 goals against per game, which is 15th in the NHL. The Oilers’ power play is 24.8%, which is 8th in the NHL, while their penalty kill is 78.3%, ranking 16th in the NHL.

Winnipeg Jets News & Notes:

The Winnipeg Jets have clinched the Central Division and Western Conference, but they now have their sights set on another in-season accomplishment, the Presidents’ Trophy. In the Jets’ history spread between the 1.0 and 2.0 iterations of the club, the 2024-25 Winnipeg Jets took home the first Central Division and Western Conference championship accomplishments. They now look to achieve another first with the Presidents’ Trophy clinching scenarios they face.

If Washington loses against Columbus in regulation, the Jets would need just one point to clinch the Presidents’ Trophy. There are other scenarios in play, but that is the first and main clinching scenario.

The Jets have averaged 3.4 goals per game, which is third in the NHL, and 2.3 goals against per game, which is first in the league. The Jets’ powerplay is also first in the league at 29.3% while their penalty kill is 15th at 79.2%.

Players To Watch:

Edmonton Oilers

On a thin Edmonton Oilers roster, they will be looking towards players like Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard to lead the way for them. With the players Edmonton has out of the lineup, any mistakes could be critical in an Oilers defeat.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg is riding high after a 5-4 shootout win over Chicago and a nifty shootout-winning goal by Cole Perfetti. Every game, Perfetti can be expected to do something unique and against Edmonton, he has a great chance at doing just that.

Kyle Connor is four points away from his first 100-point season with two games left. The Jets’ leading scorer will be looking to tack on more points against the Oilers tonight.
