Washington Capitals News & Notes:

The Capitals are 16-4-5 at home this season and have gone 12-3-2 when they commit fewer penalties than their opponents. Washington has lost two in a row in overtime and three of their last four overall. The Capitals won the first of three meetings between these teams earlier this season with a 4-1 victory in Florida on November 25.

Florida Panthers

Carter Verhaeghe has four goals in two games in February, including a hat trick in the 6-3 victory over the Islanders on Sunday. Verhaeghe had two goals in 14 games in January, but February is already the second-best scoring month of the season since the 29-year-old center had five goals in December. Verhaeghe is fourth on the Panthers in scoring with 41 points (15g, 26a) in 54 games.

Washington Capitals

Dylan Strome leads the Capitals in scoring with 50 points (15g, 35a) in 52 games. The 27-year-old center has a three-game point streak with three goals and an assist over that span. Strome has found a home with Washington with the two best seasons of his career coming since he joined the Capitals. Strome had 65 points and 67 points in his two previous seasons and is on pace for a career-best 79 points this season.
