Nashville Predators News & Notes:

Nashville has dropped two straight decisions after going on a five-game winning streak. Nashville hopes to get back on track tonight against a Penguins team that seems to have waived the white flag on their season. Nashville sits third from the bottom in the Western Conference and should be selling as the Trade Deadline draws closer.

Pittsburgh Penguins News & Notes:

The Penguins have started to sell, trading Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor to the Vancouver Canucks for Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, Melvin Fernstrom, and a 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected) from the New York Rangers. It’s been a disappointing year in Pittsburgh with injuries and uneven play. Sidney Crosby’s name has even been heard in the rumor mill about a potential trade – but that seems highly unlikely. It would be hard to imagine seeing Crosby in anything other than a Penguins sweater. The Penguins had lost three in a row until a 3-2 overtime win over the Utah Hockey Club in their last game.

Nashville Predators Projected Lines:

Forsberg-Stamkos-Marchessault
Evangelista-O’Reilly-Nyquist
Novak-Svechkov-L’Heureux
Smith-McCarron-Sissons

Josi-Barron
Skjei-Blankenburg
Wilsby-Schenn

Players To Watch:

Nashville Predators

Filip Forsberg leads the Predators with 18 goals and 31 assists for 49 points in 50 games. Nashville’s big free-agent acquisitions have been okay but haven’t provided the impact the front office hoped for, Jonathan Marchessault has 38 points in 50 games and is -11, while the jewel of free agency, Steven Stamkos, has 33 points in 50 games and is a -13. It just hasn’t worked in what seems like a lost year in Nashville.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby continues to produce for the Penguins despite a down year overall for the franchise. Crosby leads Pittsburgh with 55 points (16g, 39a) in 53 games. In the previous matchup against the Predators this season, the future 1st ballot Hall-of-Famer had a goal and three assists in the Penguins 5-4 overtime victory.
