Ottawa Senators News & Notes:

The Senators snapped a five-game losing streak their last time out with a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Ottawa is 13-16-2 on the road this season but with a win tonight in Washington D.C. will move past Detroit into the second Wild Card spot. This is the third and final meeting between these clubs with Ottawa winning the last meeting 5-4 in overtime.

Washington Capitals News & Notes:

The Capitals had returned from the 4 Nations break and won their first two contests out-scoring their opponents 15-6. Washington has since lost three games in a row and has been outscored 11-4 over that span. The Capitals have built a cushion where they can endure some slumps but need to right the ship before the playoffs begin. The Capitals have split the season series with the Senators and could potentially see them in the playoffs. Tonight is the rubber match and is a big game for both teams.

Players To Watch:

Ottawa Senators

Tim Stutzle will try to extend his point streak to 12 games tonight in D.C. The 23-year-old center had 10 points (2g, 8a) in eight games in February and then started March with a bang, tallying a goal and an assist in the Senators’ 5-3 win over San Jose on Saturday.

Washington Capitals

Alex Ovechkin is eleven goals away from becoming the All-Time Leading Scorer in NHL History. Ovechkin has already tied his goal total from a season ago. The future Hall of Fame winger has 31 goals and is on pace for 42 goals, which would break Wayne Gretzky’s record toward the end of the regular season.
