The Penguins are sliding backward with losses in three straight games as they travel to D.C. to face the division-leading Capitals. Pittsburgh has been outscored 14-4 during their three-game losing streak. The Penguins are 7-10-5 on the road this season and just waived goaltender Tristin Jarry, who has struggled all season. This is the second meeting between these two clubs this season, with the Pens taking the first meeting 4-2 on November 8 in Washington.

Washington has been playing well with a three-game winning streak and four wins in their last five games (4-0-1), outscoring opponents 12-5 with two straight shutouts. The Capitals are 6-1-3 in their previous ten games and are 15-4-4 at home this season. With very few weaknesses, the Capitals can win in a variety of ways.

Alex Nedeljkovic had himself a night against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday with a goalie goal and an assist, to go along with 40 saves and a .952 save percentage in a 5-2 Penguins victory. Nedeljkovic became the first goalie in NHL history to record a two-point game and also became the first goalie even with a goalie goal in the ECHL, AHL, and the NHL.

Alex Ovechkin is closing in on Wayne Gretzky’s All-Time Goal Scoring Record, the future first-ballot Hall of Famer is 21 goals away from breaking the record. Ovechkin has five goals in his last ten games and leads the Caps with 21 goals in 29 games this season.
