When the Red Wings brought in Todd McLellan the team fortunes changed, the Wings under McLellan are 16-5-2 and have streaked into playoff position in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are 7-2-1 in their last ten games and will look to play spoiler tonight in the Stadium Series in Columbus.

Columbus Blue Jackets News & Notes:

The Stadium Series will be the first outdoor game for the Blue Jackets, and it couldn’t come at a better time as they are battling for a playoff spot. The Blue Jackets expect to take the ice this evening in front of 90,000-plus fans in the iconic home of the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Blue Jackets will wear jerseys with a nod to the Buckeyes. The game itself is a huge contest as the Blue Jackets and Red Wings occupy the Wild Card spots in the Eastern Conference, the winner of this game will get a leg up and move into the first Wild Card spot. This is the third and final meeting between these two clubs this season with each team winning once. The most recent game was a victory for the Blue Jackets 5-2 in Detroit on Thursday.

Detroit Red Wings

Alex DeBrincat has points in eight straight games for the Red Wings and will try to extend his streak to nine games tonight. The 5-foot-8 winger had 12 points in eight February games with three multi-point games over that span. DeBrincat is on pace for 38 goals which would be his best season since he scored 41 goals in his last season in Chicago in 2021-2022. In two games against the Blue Jackets this season, DeBrincat has two goals and two assists.

Kirill Marchenko is riding a five-game point streak into the Stadium Series tonight including a goal in the Jackets’ 5-2 win over the Red Wings on Thursday night. The 24-year-old Russian is blossoming into a star, setting career highs in goals (24), assists (36), and points (60). The 6-foot-3 winger is on pace for an 83-point season and is just scratching the surface of his immense talent.
