NHL Game Preview: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins | 03/07/2024

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing off against the Boston Bruins tonight for the second time this week. Tonight is the last game before the trade deadline, but also a potential playoff preview as current standings line up for the Bruins and Leafs facing off against each other in the first round of the playoffs.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The Leafs and Bruins last faced off this past Tuesday, and the Bruins played the better game both defensively and offensively, coming out on top with a 4-1 win. The Bruins defended their net much better than the Leafs, and the Leafs will need to change that if they want a chance at beating the Bruins. The Leafs sit behind the Bruins in the standings and will look to try and catch them, so tonight’s game is important.

LEAFS QUICK LOOK (36-18-8)

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Jake McCabe was out last game with illness but is drawing back into the lineup tonight. McCabe has picked up his game with the Leafs this season and has played solid defensively. McCabe will be against a tough Bruins team, and it will be important that he helps keep the Bruins forwards away from the front of the net.
  • Joel Edmundson was traded to the Leafs this morning for a third and fifth-round pick, 50% retained. Edmundson is arriving in Boston around the time of the Leafs game and might end up stepping into the lineup late if the Leafs need an extra body due to illness going around the room. Edmundson plays a defensive game and is known for being large and physical, two traits that Treliving covets.
  • Pontus Holmberg was a healthy scratch last night after making a couple of mistakes Tuesday night against the Bruins. We don’t know much about the Leafs lineup tonight, but the fourth line looked considerably worse without Holmberg last night. If Holmberg draws back into the lineup tonight, look for him to continue to make the smart plays he makes on the puck while limiting mistakes he makes off the puck.
