NHL Game Preview: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres | 03/06/2024

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing off against the Buffalo Sabres tonight as the Leafs look to get back into the win column after losing their last game to the Bruins. The Sabres will be without Casey Mittlestadt as he was traded earlier today for Bowen Byram. Erik Johnson will also be out of the lineup for trade-related reasons.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The last time that the Toronto Maple Leafs played against the Buffalo Sabres they were humiliated. This was earlier this season on December 21. The Sabres came out on top with a 9-3 victory and ultimately dominated the Leafs all night. The Leafs will look to get revenge tonight.

LEAFS QUICK LOOK (35-18-8)

3rd in the Atlantic, 9th in the NHL

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Max Domi has found himself as the second line centre for the team as of late and has had mixed results in that role. Domi has a lot of offensive skill, but that can come at the cost of defence at times. As things get closer to the trade deadline and the Leafs assess where they need to make moves keep an eye on Domi as he looks to reassure the team of his elevated spot in the lineup.
  • Jake McCabe has been a solid defender for the Leafs this season. McCabe has played a tough and hard defensive game and will look to continue to do that tonight. McCabe had some doubters after the end of last season, but seems to have picked up his game as the season has gone on. McCabe is looking like he will be an important player for the Leafs down the stretch.
  • Auston Matthews has been on a tear this season and is on pace to score over 70 goals. Matthews will be playing against his friend, Thompson, tonight as he looks to help the Leafs get back into the win column.
