HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The Leafs and Red Wings last faced off January 14th in what ended up being a 4-2 win for the Red Wings. The Red Wings have been pushing towards the end of the season and tonight’s game is a must win for their playoff chances. Matthews will look to get closer to the 70 goal mark, now sitting at 68 goals while attempting to lead the team to another two points.

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Timothy Liljegren returns to the lineup tonight after suffering an injury March 26th. Liljegren has had multiple stretches of consistent play followed by an injury and it has taken time for him to grow his confidence after limited playing time and coming back from his last injury. Liljegren will look to pick things up quickly though and vastly improve the puck movement of the defense core.
  • Max Domi missed practice yesterday with a minor injury but will be dressing tonight. Domi has been a great complimentary player to Matthews and has a legitimate chance at starting out the playoffs alongside Matthews. Look for Domi to have another strong game tonight, boosting the Leafs offense while sticking up for his teammates.
  • Ilya Samsonov had a poor outing on Thursday letting in 6 goals but has been far better for the Leafs lately than his start to the season and this past start. Look for Samsonov to rebound quickly tonight and build some momentum towards the playoffs.

When it comes to Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner, one never knows what they are going to get. On one hand, one might see a version of Skinner, 26, who stands tall, comes up with big saves, does not get out of position, and does not allow soft goals. When this version of Skinner is […]
