NHL Game Preview: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers | 04/16/2024

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing off against the Florida Panthers tonight in their second-last game of the season. Tonight is the Panthers last game, and if they want a chance at winning the Atlantic Division they will need to beat the Leafs. The Leafs are looking to come out of tonight’s game with as many healthy bodies coming out of it as they had going in while Matthews looks for one more goal to get him to 70 on the season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The Leafs and Panthers last faced off on April 1st, which ended up being an entertaining game that lead to a 6-4 victory for the Leafs. Both teams have offense that can punish mistakes, and will look to tighten up their defense tonight. Tonight’s game is a potential playoff matchup as a Leafs win would mean a first round matchup against the Panthers.

LEAFS QUICK LOOK (46-24-10)

3rd in the Atlantic, 10th in the NHL

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Joel Edmundson missed the last game after coming back from his injury the game before. Edmundson plays a physical game so he can take a beating at times. Edmundson looks to be playing tonight and will hope to give a further preview of what he can do in the playoffs.
  • Joseph Woll may have his last chance of the regular season to show what he brings to the table tonight. Woll has been a calm goaltender and started off on a great run with the Leafs but hasn’t quite performed at the same level since his high ankle sprain. Look for Woll to play a strong and calm game tonight in hopes of pushing himself into a starting job for the playoffs.
  • Nick Robertson has had an eventful season but it’s the healthiest season he has had as a Leaf. Robertson brings some much-needed secondary offense but it’s often his play off of the puck that keeps him out of the lineup. Look for Robertson to play a strong game tonight as he pushes for a playoff job with the status of McMann and Järnkrok uncertain.
