HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The Leafs and Flyers last met on February 15th, where the Leafs ultimately won 4-3 in overtime largely due to a natural hattrick from Auston Matthews. The Leafs have a dangerous offense and will look to have their fresh bodies play a full 60 minutes. The Flyers will need to defend well tonight while adding some offense of their own.

LEAFS QUICK LOOK (37-19-8)

3rd in the Atlantic, 10th in the NHL

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Ilya Samsonov will be in the net tonight as he looks to extend his solid play to another game. Samsonov has been the better goalie since Woll’s return and is making it hard for Keefe to give Woll starts. Samsonov has been a steady presence in the Leafs net and has made some stellar saves along the way.
  • Ilya Lyubushkin has been with the team the longest of the deadline additions and like his first stay in Toronto, he is paired with Morgan Rielly. Lyubushkin is a physical defenseman, who plays that mean style that Treliving covets. Lyubushkin has been good so far with the Leafs in his second stay with the team and will look to continue that again tonight.
  • Auston Matthews has been dominant this season and is on pace for close to 70 goals. With that said, Matthews has scored 1 goal in his past 5 games. Matthews will look to add to the 54 goals he has so far this season after a break between games. Look for Matthews to be a factor on both ends of the ice tonight.

Taking a Look at the Detroit Red Wings Draft History

I have written that the Detroit Red Wings have not been able to acquire a superstar player in the NHL Entry Draft due to their not having won the NHL’s draft lottery since its inception in 1995.
