NHL Game Preview: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Pittsburgh Penguins | 04/08/2024

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing off against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight as the team looks to make it through the end of the season healthy while building momentum toward the playoffs. The Penguins are fighting for their chance at a return to the playoffs too as they are right on the edge of a playoff spot battling with multiple other teams.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The Leafs and Penguins last faced off on December 16th, 2023 in what turned out to be a blowout win for the Leafs. The Leafs scored 7 goals all while shutting out the Penguins. The Penguins have been playing much better hockey as of late and will look to play a much better game offensively and defensively so the Leafs will need to keep on the gas.

LEAFS QUICK LOOK (44-23-9)

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Ryan Reaves has found his game as of late with the Leafs and is looking like he will be a factor in the playoffs. Reaves has had far better advanced stats and results lately and will look to keep trending in a positive direction with tonight as no exception.
  • William Nylander has been impressive this season with 96 points on the season. Nylander will look to hit the 100-point mark before the end of the season, although he’s more concerned with playoff results. Nylander is at his best when he is engaging in the play offensively while keeping his foot on the gas defensively as well, and he will look to do more of the same tonight.
  • TJ Brodie has had multiple stretches this season where he struggled, and as of late has found himself on the Leafs third pairing and a question mark for the playoffs. Brodie needs to keep his game simple and will be looking to do that with his former pairing partner from Calgary in Giordano. Look for Brodie to make smart plays off of the puck tonight.

3 Takeaways from the Florida Panthers & Detroit Red Wings Game 01/16/2025

If there’s one hole to the Panthers’ game right now it’s the penalty kill. Florida played a solid and tight 5v5 game against the Red Wings and absolutely shot themselves in the foot by not being able to kill penalties. A nice positive to take from this match is that the third line of Verhaeghe-Lundell-J. […]
