Vancouver Canucks News & Notes:

After trading J.T. Miller, the Canucks losing Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko really made things more difficult. After the 4 Nations break, Vancouver signed Kevin Lankinen to a contract extension that may make Demko available on the trade market.

With so many irons in the fire, it’s hard to tell if Vancouver is ready to re-tool on the fly or if they’re blowing up their core and hoping to bring pieces back to rebuild that core. Elias Pettersson has been bandied about along with Brock Boeser. Things will get interesting in Vancouver.

Utah Hockey Club News & Notes:

Utah is now 6 points outside a Wild Card position, within striking distance. They trail the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks for the last Wild Card slot. While they are within distance of the playoffs, it could turn out that Utah wouldn’t be a seller at the deadline. Under new ownership, it will be interesting to see the new tactics taken.

Players To Watch:

Vancouver Canucks

Free Agent signing Jake DeBrusk has impressed with the Canucks so far this season. He currently leads the team in goals with 20 and a combined 34 points on the season.

Utah Hockey Club

Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther lead the team in goals with 20 apiece. Karel Vejmelka has been solid between the pipes for Utah and has led to potential contract talk extensions. Vejmelka will definitely draw attention on the trade market before the deadline.

Opinion: Stars’ Mikko Rantanen Returns to Form At the Right Time

It was clear that Mikko Rantanen was not exactly about being traded by the Colorado Avalanche, the only NHL club he had ever known. It was in Colorado where he spent close to 11 seasons, won a Stanley Cup in 2022, had 681 points (287 goals and 394 assists), and made lifelong friends. That is […]

Edmonton Oilers Playoff Thoughts: Round 2, Game 2

It takes four wins to advance, but the Edmonton Oilers historically lose almost every Game 1. In their last 15 rounds, including Tuesday night, they’ve won only four series openers. Even in 2006, they only won one Game 1. If you include that Playoff run, just for laughs, the record is 5 Game 1 wins […]
