Winnipeg Jets News & Notes:

The Jets have won two games in a row, outscoring opponents 10-2, and look to keep that streak alive tonight in Raleigh. Winnipeg is 21-11-0 on the road this season. The Jets have been deadly on the powerplay, scoring a league-high 56 powerplay goals. This is the second and final meeting between these two teams, with the Jets winning the first meeting 3-0 on February 4 in Winnipeg.

Carolina Hurricanes News & Notes:

The Hurricanes have won three straight games and will try to extend their winning streak tonight against the team with the best record in the NHL, the Winnipeg Jets. The big news in Carolina, though, is off the ice where, after trading for Mikko Rantanen, Carolina flips him at the trade deadline to the Dallas Stars for Logan Stankoven, two 1st round picks, and two third-round picks. Stankoven should make his Hurricanes debut tonight.

Players To Watch:

Winnipeg Jets

Nino Niederreiter has only 1 point in March after producing two points in February but his two points in February came in the victory over Carolina where the Swiss winger notched a goal and an assist. Niederreiter has evolved into a solid two-way forward for the Jets but can still score when called upon, the 32-year-old forward has six 20+ goal seasons in his career.

Carolina Hurricanes

Everyone in Carolina will be watching Logan Stankoven to see how he fits with the Hurricanes in his debut. Mikko Rantanen never seemed to develop the chemistry with Sebastian Aho that many thought would be there naturally as they are both Finnish players. I believe Stankoven plays a more similar style to Aho and fits the Carolina system better, I think big things are on the horizon for this duo.

Opinion: Stars’ Mikko Rantanen Returns to Form At the Right Time

It was clear that Mikko Rantanen was not exactly about being traded by the Colorado Avalanche, the only NHL club he had ever known. It was in Colorado where he spent close to 11 seasons, won a Stanley Cup in 2022, had 681 points (287 goals and 394 assists), and made lifelong friends. That is […]

Edmonton Oilers Playoff Thoughts: Round 2, Game 2

It takes four wins to advance, but the Edmonton Oilers historically lose almost every Game 1. In their last 15 rounds, including Tuesday night, they’ve won only four series openers. Even in 2006, they only won one Game 1. If you include that Playoff run, just for laughs, the record is 5 Game 1 wins […]
