Winnipeg Jets News & Notes:

In a matchup of the two best teams in the NHL, the Jets bring their five-game winning streak to D.C. to take on the Capitals. The Jets are the highest-scoring team in the league with 190 goals, have the best powerplay in the NHL with a 33.1% success rate, and a league-best +63 goal differential. The Jets are a ridiculous 32-2-1 when scoring 3+ goals in a game.

Washington Capitals News & Notes:

The Capitals have some accolades of their own, Washington is the best defensive team in the NHL having allowed only 122 goals on the season while being second in the league in scoring with 178 goals. The Capitals have the league’s best shooting percentage at 12.74% slightly better than the Jets’ 12.68%. What it all comes down to is both of these teams are in the top 5 in most offensive and defensive categories and it should be an exciting potential Stanley Cup Preview.

Players To Watch:

Winnipeg Jets

The entire line of Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Gabe Vilardi have been on another planet this season. Connor leads the Jets in scoring with 66 points (30g, 36a), Scheifele leads Winnipeg in goals with 31 and is second in points with 59, and finally, Vilardi has been a tremendous compliment to Connor and Scheifele with 22 goals and 27 assists for 49 points, including a team-leading 11 powerplay goals.

Washington Capitals

It’s unfair to players having career years for the Capitals that Alex Ovechkin gets a lot, or most, of the headlines but when he’s going to break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal-scoring record those headlines are deserved. Ovechkin got a little closer with a goal against Ottawa on Thursday night, now needing only 19 goals to break the record.
