The Devils have had three shutouts this season, grabbing their third on Monday, November 4th at Rogers Place when Jake Allen and the Devils shutout the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 after getting shutout by the Calgary Flames on Friday. Stef Noesen, Jesper Bratt, and Timo Meier all scored the three goals for New Jersey.    Stef Noesen got the party started, putting New Jersey in front 1-0 early into the opening frame at 14:42. Paul Cotter carried the puck throughout Edmonton’s zone, skating behind the net and heading towards the left boards where he passed the puck to Noesen, who scored from the slot on a snap shot that had deflected in off the right post.

After an amazing save by Jake Allen at 8:36 of the second, Jesper Bratt made it 2-0 for his third goal of the season later into the period. Dougie Hamilton passed the puck over to Nico Hischier, who found Jesper Bratt, who scored from the slot with a power-play goal when he buried a one-timer five-hole. The Devils only had three shots on goal in the middle frame, making one of those three shots go in past Calvin Pickard to grab a 2-0 lead before heading into the final 20 minutes.

Timo Meier extended New Jersey’s lead to 3-0 with 10:35 remaining in the third for his sixth goal of the season when he gloved down a pass from Dawson Mercer, who stole the puck from the Oilers at the blueline before he circled back and flipped the puck to Meier, who went on to skate in on a breakaway, made a move to his backhand, and then stuffed a shot past Calvin Pickard’s left pad for a 3-0 final.

Jake Allen on the game overall, how big this win was to end the road trip, and what he liked about his game: “I think that’s a good way to put it, to end up two out of three on this trip. It’s been a long trip for everyone involved and we’re ready to head home on a happy flight. It’s important for us,” – “I tried to take a little bit of a page out of Marky’s last two games. I felt he played a lot more calmly than in previous games, and he looked great in his last two games… I tried to take a page out of that book. They got a good team over there and they got a team that can make a lot of plays. When you have that, you got to be a bit more patient, a little bit more deep, and we found a way to get it done.”

Stefan Noesen on the 3-0 victory and the road trip overall: “Even if we did break, we had Jakey back in there. He was kicking pretty good tonight… The Western trip we had here was good for us overall. We had a really good appearance in Vancouver, and even though we didn’t have our legs, in Calgary, we still limited their chances to very minimal and the result wasn’t our way… Tonight we were patient. We were able to get one in the first, get one in the second, a great play by Mercer, and the team really finished it off.”

Timo Meier on what he makes of the game: “Solid. It starts with reacting – I thought we had a little bit of a slow start, but we reacted quick. We got an important goal early, and then some key saves by Jaker. He played unbelievably. That’s just what we need. Then the power play comes out, does their job well executed – goal there, then we were in full control of the game. Just overall over the whole game, we thought we did a good job.”

Notes:

– This was not only Jake Allen’s second shutout of the season, but it had also been his 26th shutout throughout his NHL career.

– Jake Allen stopped all 31 shots he faced for New Jersey.

– Jesper Bratt picked up both a goal and an assist… Bratt has 15 points this season, all in 15 games.

– Calvin Pickard made a total of 13 saves for the Edmonton Oilers.
