NHL Game Recap: Blackhawks Lose 3-2, Dickinson Scores Twice For Chicago

The Blackhawks lost 3-2, extending their losing streak to three games straight, against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, November 19th at United Center. Even though it was an unfortunate loss for Chicago, they definitely put in the effort and came out strong. Jason Dickinson scored the two goals for the Blackhawks, and Connor Bedard assisted on both goals. Pavel Mintyukov, Alex Killorn, and Leo Carlsson all scored three goals to help the Ducks rally past the Blackhawks, and Trevor Zegras picked up a pair of assists. With this victory, Anaheim extended their win streak to three games. On Thursday, the Hawks host the Florida Panthers next.

Jason Dickinson opened the scoring late with 2:58 remaining on the clock in the first period to put the Blackhawks in front 1-0. After fighting for the puck along the right boards, Dickinson passed it to Connor Bedard, who sent the puck back to him cross-ice, and Dickinson scored on a one-timer over John Gibson’s shoulder from the right circle. With just a minute left in the opening 20, Pavel Mintyukov answered fast to tie it to 1-1 when he had been set up by Brett Leason for the tying tally. He scored from the bottom of the left circle with a snap shot off Leason’s pass from the goal line on the right side.

Early into the middle frame, Jason Dickinson put Chicago back in the lead 2-1 at 16:06 when, yet again, Connor Bedard passed the puck to Dickinson. The Hawks and Ducks were fighting for the puck in the left corner and behind the net, Teuvo Teravainen got ahold of the puck and sent it back behind the net to Bedard, who skated behind the net with the puck and found Dickinson. This had been Dickinson’s fourth goal and Bedard’s 12th assist of the season.

Alex Killorn tied it to 2-2 at 14:50 of the third period when he slipped a backhand under the left pad of Arvid Soderblom. Trevor Zegras had gotten the puck behind the net, passing it to Killorn in front for the tying goal. Giving Anehiem their first lead of the night – Leo Carlsson scored to make it a 3-2 lead for the Ducks at 10:22 of the third. As he entered the offensive zone, Killorn took a pass and stopped at the top of the right circle to fire a seam pass to Carlsson for a tap-in at the left post for a 3-2 final.

Jason Dickinson on the loss, the game overall, and Connor Bedard: “They scored more, they stuck with it, and put the puck in. We had some chances, we created some good opportunities that we just didn’t convert on. We’d love to see us put a couple more pucks in the net, obviously, and have a different-looking third period. We worked hard to get there to that point, but we were just unable to find a way to finish,” – “The kid’s a heck of a player. He can make those plays that seem like they’re not there, so I try to find open ice for him. I try to just get inside his head and see what he’s seeing, and fortunate enough for a couple of goals that it connected.”

Connor Bedard on level of frustration, game overall, and producing: “Obviously, it’s high. I mean, we lost three games, so I think we’re all feeling it. It’s our job to figure out a way to get some wins,” – “We knew their schedule, but in the end, every team is used to that. We knew they were going to come on hard whether it was back-to-back or not, it’s just a game we got to win where we’re up and felt like we were in control of the game a little bit, and then we let it slip away. So, it’s frustrating – I’m trying to play, get better, and obviously, part of my role is to produce. I want to do that at a more consistent rate.”

– Arvid Soderblom made a total of 21 saves for Chicago.

– Peter Mrazek had been scratched from the lineup due to personal reasons… Drew Commesso was recalled from Rockford and was backup.

– John Gibson made a total of 18 saves for Anaheim.

– Leo Carlsson’s four game-winning goals in 2024-25 make him tied with Leon Draisaitl for second-most among all players… He also became the first Anaheim Ducks teenager with four career winners.

– Brock McGinn missed the game due to sustaining a lower-body injury on Monday… it’s not known yet how long he’ll be out, according to Greg Cronin. …Replacing McGinn in the lineup, Sam Colangelo was recalled from San Diego on Sunday, and he had three shots on goal in 10:12 in his season debut.
