NHL Game Recap: Canucks Comeback Falls Short In OT Loss to Carolina

Kevin Lankinen once again brought his A game. This time against the Carolina Hurricanes, and without it, this would have been a very one-sided contest. After trailing 3-1, the Canucks did manage to fight back and send the game to overtime. Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes, and Pius Suter scored for Vancouver. With Suter’s goal tying the game with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.

Local boy, Arshdeep Bains, appeared to have given the Canucks a 2-1 lead in the first period, but the goal was called back on a coach’s challenge, by Canes coach Rod Brind’Amour, for offside. It would have been very fitting for Bains on a night the Canucks were hosting their annual Diwali night, which is dedicated to honoring the lively culture of the South Asian community.

Speaking to reporters post-game, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said: “The last 10 minutes was great, but before that, we have to learn. I don’t think we were ready to play, and Carolina was. They beat us to pucks.” Tocchet went on to say that changes are coming to the power play.

The Canes got goals from William Carrier, Martin Necas, Jack Roslovic, and Sebastian Aho, with the OT winner, to pick up there fourth straight win. Carolina was the better them on this night. Vancouver’s winning streak ended at four.

Next game: The Canucks take on the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night in Vancouver. The Canes head home to face the Boston Bruins on Halloween night.

Vancouver Canucks News & Notes:

General Manager, Patrik Allvin, announced pregame that defenseman Derek Forbort had rejoined the team following the passing of his father, Keith. My condolences to Derek and his family.

Dakota Joshua continues to skate hard during practice and may be able to resume play within the next week. That is such a good news story, as Joshua fights his way back from testicular cancer. He has definitely been missed.
