Getting handed their fourth straight loss, the Jets lost 4-1 to the St. Louis Blues at Canada Life Centre on Tuesday, December 3rd. It’s unfortunate, the amount of losses they’ve been taking lately when they started out this season was, and is, extremely incredible. However, with each of these losses recently, they have managed to avoid getting shutout. Mark Scheifele scored the lone Winnipeg goal against St. Louis. Jordan Kyrou scored twice for the Blues, and both Dylan Holloway and Robert Thomas scored to help the Blues secure this victory. The Jets head to Buffalo on Thursday to take on the Sabres, and will, hopefully, put an end to their losing streak.

After a scoreless opening 20, Jordan Kyrou gave St. Louis the 1-0 lead late in the second period with 1:57 remaining when he received Brayden Schenn’s saucer pass had found Kyrou in the slot… his initial shot was stopped by Connor Hellebuyck, it redirected in off Mark Scheifele’s foot after Schenn had carried the puck into Winnipeg’s zone before passing it off to Kyrou. Dylan Holloway quickly made it a 2-0 lead for the Blues after the first St. Louis goal following a give-and-go with Scott Perunovich and scored on his own rebound for his second goal this season.

Jordan Kyrou struck his second of the night at 13:22 of the third frame to push it to 3-0 when he spun and shot from the high slot, firing the puck past Connor Hellebuyck. Later into the third, Mark Scheifele cut it to 3-1 with 4:15 left in regulation to avoid getting the Jets shutout and ended Joel Hofer’s shutout bid in the goalie’s hometown. For the 4-1 final, Robert Thomas struck Winnipeg’s empty net.

Mark Scheifele on the loss, and the St. Louis Blues under a new head coach: “We weren’t bad in the first and then, you know, in the second, we just got away from our game a little bit, and then getting 2, 4 goals was tough. They clogged it up, they played good D, and they made it tough for us to get to the net. We just didn’t play our game,” – “They worked hard. They got the puck to the slot, they made good plays, they made it tough on us, clogged it up in the neutral zone, and made it tough for us to get any sustained pressure. So, they played a good game, we just didn’t really.”

Haydn Fleury on the way they played, the loss, him pulling the puck off the goal line, and the four losses straight: “I thought we just didn’t really get pucks in deep until the third… I thought we made the game harder on ourselves than we needed to be, and we paid for it,” – “I was in the wrong spot, so I need to pull that one out. I needed to bail my goalie out there ’cause he bailed me out getting a piece of that – This is kind of the first little bit of adversity we’ve had this year and, you know, nobody likes to deal with it, but the only way to get through it is as a team… I think we got to look at ourselves in the mirror and really dig deep because this thing can’t get any easier.”

Notes:

– The Jets have lost four straight, and have lost five of six (1-5-0).

– Connor Hellebuyck made a total of 28 saves for Winnipeg.

– Since the start of the season, starting 15-1-0, the Jets are 3-7-0 and have scored one or fewer goals in six games during that span

– The St. Louis Blues scored twice in the second period, outshooting the Jets 19-3.

– Joel Hofer made a total of 22 saves for St. Louis.

– Scott Perunovich picked up a pair of assists… Both Dylan Holloway and Robert Thomas recorded a goal and an assist for the St. Louis Blues and extended their point streak to four games (3-0-1) since Jim Montgomery had been named head coach on the 24th of November. …Under Montgomery, the Blues have outscored their opponents 14-5 in regulation, and they are 9-for-9 on the penalty kill.

– Justin Faulk was not there to take part in pregame warmups and had been a late scratch due to sustaining an upper-body injury. Scott Perunovich took Faulk’s place in the lineup.
