Pavel Dorofeyev opened the scoring at 9:47 in the first period on a 5-on-3 power play when he received a cross-crease pass from Nicolas Roy, who originally took a pass from Jack Eichel and then sent it to Dorofeyev, who one-timed it past Joey Daccord to put Vegas in front 1-0. Soon after the first Vegas goal of the night, Roy pushed it to 2-0 with 6:29 on the clock when he took a feed from Ivan Barbashev at the left post to then send the puck into an open net. Brandon Tanev cut it to 2-1 with 2:39 remaining in the opening frame when he fired a wrister on a breakaway that beat Adin Hill high blocker after intercepting Brayden McNabb’s pass at Seattle’s blue line.

Tying it 2-2 and scoring his second of the game – Brandon Tanev struck again at 12:48 of the middle frame after the puck was stolen at the bottom of the left circle by Tye Kartye, who then found Tanev in the slot, who had chipped it over Adin Hill’s glove.

Oliver Bjorkstrand gave the Kraken their first lead of the night 3-2 at 17:02 of the third, this being his fourth goal of the season. Adin Hill had poke-checked a loose puck off Bjorkstran as he had been crashing the net after it deflected off of Chandler Stephenson when Jaden Schwartz sent it to him. This was Bjorkstrands first game back after being a healthy scratch on Tuesday in a 6-3 loss against the Colorado Avalanche. With Hill pulled for an extra attacker and 1:22 remaining in regulation – Alex Pietrangelo tied it 3-3 late to head into overtime when his pass to Tomas Hertl had deflected off Adam Larsson’s skate and in.

Just 29 seconds into overtime, the Kraken won it to snap a losing streak – Jared McCann struck his seventh goal of the season on the game-winning goal when he deked to his backhand, lifting it over Adin Hill’s left pad after taking Brandon Montour’s pass from the neutral zone and skated in on a breakaway for the 4-3 final.

Tye Kartye on the Brandon Tanev goal, the way the Kraken played throughout the game, and if a loss like Tuesday’s helps: “I think we just lost a draw and I got a good jump there, then ended up beating Pietrangelo to the puck and then just trying to take it to the net, create some offense, and he was in a good spot,” – “We’re on the same page, we play a similar style. When we’re getting the puck deep, getting it back, and making plays, it goes well for us… A little bit – take a step back and get to watch the game, but as soon as you get in, you’re going to have your opportunity and then you just want to take advantage of it.”

Nicolas Roy on the loss, Adin Hill, situations that led to the loss, and what changed after starting off strong: “Coming in today, we wanted to obviously get the two points. I think a pretty good effort overall, we put ourselves in the best solutions many times today. Hillsy played a really good game, and if it wasn’t for him, I think it would have been a different score for sure,” – “It was a lot of self-inflicted stuff in the neutral zone, turnovers… They obviously have a lot of skilled players, fast players, and we can’t be doing those turnovers in the neutral zone. So, I would say that was a difference-maker tonight – Obviously, the second period wasn’t our best. I think they were all over us. Our breakouts were not as clean, our forecheck wasn’t good enough… we spent a lot of our time in the defensive zone. We got to be better than we were in the second period.”

Notes:

– The Kraken has lost seven of their past eight, and they also had never beaten the Golden Knights at Climate Pledge Arena before.
