Justin Brazeau opened the scoring early into the first period at 16:37 to put the Bruins in front 1-0 with his fourth goal in his last six games. He redirected a shot from Nikita Zadorov, tipping it in past Joey Daccord after Charlie Coyle had kept the play alive from his knees to get it back to the blue line for Brazeau to give Boston the lead. With 10:03 remaining in the opening frame, Coyle extended the Bruins’ lead to 2-0 with a slick goal on the power play for his second goal of the season. After the Bruins prevented many of Seattle’s clearing attempts, the puck was worked down below the right circle to Brad Marchand, who made a cross-crease pass to Coyle, who then deked around Daccord from the left post. It appeared that Pavel Zacha gave Boston a 3-0 lead when he scored off a redirection of a shot from Charlie McAvoy, however, the Seattle Kraken had successfully challenged the zone entry for offside.
Through both the first and second periods, the Bruins held the Kraken to only 10 shots on goal. Seattle did not have a shot on goal until 15:30 of the first period when Brandon Tanev intercepted a pass by Brad Marchand for a short-handed breakaway. … David Pastrnak didn’t take a shift during the third, however, he remained on the bench in what coach Jim Montgomery called a “coach’s decision,” before he declined to comment any further.
Jeremy Swayman on the win and back-to-back shutouts: “It’s just finding your flow. I know what I need to do to stay in the moment and keep it one shot at a time. The guys in front of me did a great job of clogging the middle and letting me see the first shot. So, that was a really good team win,” – “That’s a lot of momentum for our team… Korpi, big hats off to him for leading the way. It’s just really special to see our team come together and not take no for an answer. The way we pounced on them early, I think set the tone for the whole game.”
Charlie Coyle on the importance of games and getting better: “Every game is important. You can dissect it however you want, right? But where you’re kind of on a downward slope like that or our game wasn’t turning in the right direction, I mean, you want to use that next one as another opportunity to get better… In our heads, you don’t have to play a perfect game, there’s going to be mistakes but let’s go hard – let’s make our mistakes going hard. Usually, we could bail each other out that way or you make less of them… We needed to turn that little switch just the right way a little bit yesterday, that’s all we needed to do, and we did it. It was all in our details, our game, our preparation, bringing that energy as I touched on… all of that applies and gets you in the right frame of mind and gets your legs working. So, you carry throughout no matter what happens… It kind of takes everyone to take more responsibility and create that energy.”
Notes:
– Only seven U.S.-born goaltenders have had as many NHL career shutouts as Jeremy Swayman, who has 13, at the age of 25 or younger… Frank Brimsek (22), Jonathan Quick (20), John Gibson (18), Jim Carey (16), Tom Barrasso (14), Mike Karakas (14), and Connor Hellebuyck (14).
– Joey Daccord made a total of 31 saves for the Seattle Kraken… It had been the sixth time out of eight games this season that Daccord faced at least 30 shots.
