NHL Playoffs: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins | Game 5 Preview

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins face off tonight in game five of their best-of-seven series, and the Bruins are on the edge of eliminating the Leafs as they hold a three-to-one series lead. The Bruins have played a better game in general than the Leafs, but their special teams have been making a major difference as they kill off their penalties and score at a solid rate on the man advantage. The Leafs will look to play a solid game tonight with urgency as they look to live another day, but likely without their top centre, Auston Matthews.

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Joseph Woll is projected to start tonight as the Leafs look to come back from a three-to-one series deficit. Woll has had some high moments as well as low moments throughout the season, but ultimately his calm composure has helped the Leafs. The rookie goaltender will look to keep the game simple while making the higher-danger saves that Samsonov hasn’t been able to save. This is a team game but with the Bruins’ goaltenders playing so well, Woll will need to bring his best tonight.
  • Connor Dewar found himself watching the last game rather than playing after a relatively solid start to the playoffs. Dewar will look to come back into the lineup with Matthews unlikely to play tonight. Look for Dewar to play a feisty game, making solid choices defensively. He hasn’t found as much success offensively but will look to contribute in any way possible.
  • Timothy Liljegren is also projected to be back in the lineup after sitting last game in favour of Brodie. Liljegren was said to not be at 100%, but ultimately his presence was missed last game. Liljegren will have the most success when he plays with confidence, breaking the puck out of his own zone effectively. Liljegren seems to also have taken a minor step forward physically and will look to help the Leafs as a two-way defenseman tonight.
