Throughout last week, the Edmonton Oilers had one of their scouts attending games examining the New Jersey Devils on their California road trip. Darren Dreger recently named Tyler Toffoli as a potential trade target for Edmonton.
The 31-year-old forward has 44 points through 59 games in his 12th NHL season. He has 510 points through 792 games in his whole career. He won a Stanley Cup as a sophomore with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2013/2014 season and also went all the way to the Finals in 2020/2021 with the Montreal Canadiens.

More than 100 of his total points have been on the powerplay. Not that the Oilers need any help whatsoever on the man advantage, but having Toffoli might spark Edmonton’s second PP unit a little bit. What I like about this trade option is the Playoff experience that Toffoli would bring to the locker room. A couple of articles ago, I cited Pavel Buchnevich, who has one year left on his contract after this one, as a target for Edmonton. If that doesn’t pan out, Toffoli would come at $1.5M less. What they may give up is never new, a first round pick plus a roster player. Whether or not they could try extending him and fitting him under next season’s salary cap is another discussion for a later day.
Would you want Tyler Toffoli? Would you not? Let me know.
