The Columbus Blue Jackets have been the talk of many trade rumors lately. With the upcoming trade deadline on March 8th, those talks have been heating up, and everyone wants to know if their favorite player could get moved or if they’re staying. As discussed in a previous article, the Blue Jackets are in a delicate position in their “rebuild.” For the past few years, they have been gathering high-ranking prospects and draft picks. Recently, the gathering seems to be slowing and player development may be becoming the bigger focus right now. For that reason, the Blue Jackets may not be as willing to part with their younger players and prospects as they continue to build and grow. One thing is for sure, President and Interim General Manager John Davidson does not want to move captain Boone Jenner.

John Davidson recently appeared on Sportsnet 590 ‘The Fan,’ and when asked by Jeff Marek how often there are calls about Boone Jenner, this is what he had to say,
“Quite often. I’m being very transparent; we get a lot of calls on Boone, but Boone’s not going anywhere, and Boone doesn’t want to go anywhere.”

Right now, Jenner has been one of the best point producers compared to the cost of his contract with the Blue Jackets. Only four other players are around his point-per-game average while having smaller contracts. They are Kirill Marchenko, Adam Fantilli, Dimitri Voronkov, and Yegor Chinakov. Two of these players are pending restricted free agents, it’s very likely that the Blue Jackets will want to hold on to these talented young players as they continue to develop.
Davidson would go on to talk about the rumors “that a lot of young players don’t want to be in Columbus” and liken it to a Boone Jenner quote from a recent article.
“Every situation has its own story, and to say that I’d have to vehemently disagree. … Take a guy like [Jenner], he was just interviewed the other day by Aaron Portzline, the beat writer for the Athletic in Columbus, he [Jenner] wants to finish his career in Columbus. He says that would be a great honor, he says I’m not going anywhere, I want to be part of the solution.”
