Nylander Looks to Make Leafs History: Leafs Game Preview 9

It’s a Leafs Gameday tonight, and while many may be headed out to trick or treat soon, the Leafs game starts at 8 p.m. as the Leafs look to have a solid outing against the Kings. The Leafs are coming off an overtime loss against the Predators and will look to get right back into the win column. Joseph Woll gets the start tonight after being red-hot in his last three appearances.

Leafs Projected Lineup

Three Things to Look Out For

Giordano

Mark Giordano has looked great to start the season, especially for his age, and due to injuries may see even more playing time. Giordano has expressed he is ready for the challenge, but I’m sure the workhorse wouldn’t back down from any challenge. With that said, I’m sure the Leafs want to manage his minutes so that he doesn’t enter the playoffs with nothing left to give. With that said, it’s still early, and Giordano is playing quite well. Keep an eye on him tonight as he looks to keep it up.

Knies

Matthew Knies has looked decent to start the season with the Leafs. He’s been a hyped prospect, and for good reason, but has been less noticeable the last couple of games. Knies is a power forward who uses size and skill to win puck battles and provide offense. With Domi on his line, they are both able to set each other up for plays. This makeshift third line is working enough to start the season, but it’s time for Knies to push it up a gear. The 82-game season is a grind, and it’s up to Knies to prove he’s ready for the task. Early signs are positive.

Nylander

William Nylander is in a contract year for the Maple Leafs, and with his elite start to the season, his stock keeps going up. He’s recorded a point in every Leafs game this season so far and will set a Leafs record for the longest point streak to start the season if he records a point tonight. Nylander is one of the best players in transition in the league, and that has paid off greatly so far this season. In a contract year, Nylander needs to have a good year, and this start is encouraging. It will be up to Nylander to keep this level of play throughout the season if he wants to be paid what he’s hoping for.
