Flyers fans can slightly exhale this afternoon: a crucial piece to Philly’s rebuild is staying in town for another eight years at $6.2M AAV, per Anthony Di Marco on X.

During his 2022-2023 campaign, Owen Tippett scored 27 goals and tallied 29 assists in 77 games played. His ceiling has only grown from there. This season, he has scored 18 goals and tallied 12 assists in 46 games played.

Tippett had the NHL buzzing on January 18 when he scored what some are considering a “goal of the year” candidate against the Stars.

Just three days prior, he tallied the game-winner against the St. Louis Blues. He danced his way between two defenders to tuck it home.

Evidently, his confidence has grown in Philadelphia, allowing him to demonstrate and grow into his true talent and abilities.

The Florida Panthers traded Tippett, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2023 third-round pick to the Flyers in exchange for Claude Giroux, Connor Bunnaman, German Rubtsov, and a 2024 fifth-round pick back on March 19, 2022.

At that time, Flyers fans were mourning the trade of Giroux, their captain of 10 years. The hope was that Tippett would find his game with the Flyers after struggling to find it with the Panthers. Thankfully, he has either met or far surpassed expectations.

Unfortunately, his season has been paused due to a lower-body injury sustained in a matchup with the Colorado Avalanche. He is currently on IR, and Flyers fans are sorely awaiting his anticipated return.

The Philadelphia Flyers play the Boston Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. The Flyers hope to snap a four-game skid.
