Pat Maroon to Retire Following Season

The Chicago Blackhawks lost 4-1 to the St. Louis Blues this afternoon. Before puck drop during an interview, forward Pat Maroon confirmed that he would be retiring following the season. Maroon has won three Stanley Cups over his 14-year career, two with the Tampa Bay Lightning and one with the St. Louis Blues.

Early Years

Maroon played for eight different teams throughout his career. Maroon was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 draft with the 161st overall pick. He never played a game in the NHL for the Flyers as they traded him to the Anaheim Ducks on November 21, 2010. In five seasons with the Ducks, he appeared in 204 games recording 89 points on 30 goals and 59 assists, he had 249 penalty minutes and was a minus-eight.

The Ducks would move him to Edmonton in the 2015-16 season. He would play in 154 games with the Oilers recording 86 points on 49 goals and 37 assists. Maroon had 189 penalty minutes and was a +24 with Edmonton. Maroon was traded to the New Jersey Devils during the 2017-18 season. He would play in 17 games for the Devils recording 13 points on three goals and ten assists, he had 13 penalty minutes and was a minus-four.

Stanley Cup Years

In 2018-19 he signed with the St. Louis Blues where he won his first Cup. In 74 games he recorded 28 points on ten goals and 18 assists. He had 64 penalty minutes and was a minus-three. Maroon would spend the next four seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 280 games he had 82 points on 29 goals and 53 assists. Maroon was a +21 and had 415 penalty minutes.

The End

In 2023-24 he was with the Minnesota Wild for 49 games recording 16 points on four goals and 12 assists. He had 60 penalty minutes and was a -11. Maroon also played for the Boston Bruins playing in two games, he didn’t record a point or a penalty minute. This season with the Chicago Blackhawks in 59 games entering today he has 16 points on four goals and 12 assists. Maroon has played in 840 games after today’s game recording 320 points on 125 goals and 195 assists. He had 1,076 penalty minutes and is a career plus-seven.
