The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Montreal Canadiens in overtime last night. The Penguins won the last two games that they played before last night and got five out of the six points available in the past three games.

One minute and 48 seconds into the game, Habs forward Josh Anderson, back from his two-game suspension, gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead.

After recording four shots in the first period, the Penguins would score on their first two shots of the second period.

Former Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry scored on the power play a minute and 46 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Then, three minutes and 29 seconds into the second, forward Rickard Rakell gave the Pens a 2-1 lead off a crazy deflection.

In the third period, Habs forward Cole Caufield tied the game up at 2-2 just 49 seconds in. Three minutes and 19 seconds into the third, forward Evgeni Malkin would give the Pens a 3-2 lead. Fifty seconds later, forward Nick Suzuki would tie the game at 3-3 for the Habs. During a three-on-three, Penguins forward Brock McGinn would give the Penguins the 4-3 lead at 14:02, but forward Sean Monahan would tie up the game at 4-4 30 seconds later on the power-play.

In overtime, Habs forward Mike Hoffman would score just over a minute in to give the Habs the 5-4 win over the Penguins.

Nick Suzuki would have a goal and assist, and goalie Jake Allen would make 20 saves for the Habs, who are now 8-6-1 and have three straight wins this season for the first time.

Jeff Petry and Rickard Rakell each had a goal and assist, forward Jason Zucker had three assists, and goalie Tristian Jarry made 37 saves for the Pens, who are now 6-6-3 and are now heading home after a three-game road trip, which they finished 2-0-1.

Penguins forward Jake Guentzel would have his four-game goal streak end, and defenseman Brian Dumoulin recorded his 100th career NHL assist.

Habs forward Nick Suzuki had his third consecutive multipoint home game and now has 12 points, which includes seven goals, in his past seven games. This is also the fifth time Habs forwards Nick Suzuki, and Cole Caufield have scored in the same game this season, which is second in the league in this stay behind Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl with seven. This game was also the final game Habs rookie Juraj Stafkovsky had on the two-game suspension he received after boarding Detroit Red Wings forward Matt Luff on Tuesday.
