The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired F Nick Bonino from the San Jose Sharks in a three-team trade. The San Jose Sharks acquire defenseman Avrid Henriksson, a 2024 5th Round Pick, and a 2023 7th Round Pick. The Montreal Canadiens acquire defenseman Tony Sund and a 2024 5th Round Pick from San Jose.
Bonino currently has ten goals and 19 points in 59 games this season. He also has 158 goals and 353 points in 820 games.
Bonino previously played with the Penguins from 2015-2017, where he had 27 goals and 66 points in 143 regular season games. In the playoffs, he had four goals and 18 points in 24 games in the 2016 playoffs and four goals and seven points in the 2017 playoffs, helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup both years on the notable “HBK” like with Carl Hagelin and Phil Kessel.
The Sharks drafted Bonino in the sixth round (173rd overall) in 2007. He has played with the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Penguins, Nashville Predators, and Sharks in his 14 seasons in the NHL.
