Joe Fleming was born June 19, 2003 in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He is a defender that shoots right-handed, stands at 6’1, and weighs 209 lbs. Although he is a younger player, he shows a lot of confidence in his defensive skills on the ice. Currently, the 20 year-old defender plays for the Savannah Ghost Pirates, and has done amazing so far in the start of the 2023-24 season.
During the 2021-22 season, Fleming was with the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders in the USHL. Playing in 60 games, he scored two goals, and assisted 14, as well as had a plus / minus score of seven. What is crazy is the fact that Joe managed to get 202 penalty minutes in those 60 games that season. He is a very physical player, and is great at showing his physicality and aggression on the ice. It is no wonder that he has been such a tough player for most of his professional career. Going to the playoffs with the Rough Riders that season, Fleming played only two games but still got an assist and four penalty minutes.
Moving onto the 2022-23 season, Fleming was now in the QMJHL playing for the Sherbrooke Phoenix. There, he played 63 games, scored six goals, got 22 assists, 75 penalty minutes, and a plus / minus score of 38. He went to the playoffs with last year’s team, too, but made it through 14 games that go-around. This time, he was able to score a goal and get five assists, as well as 22 penalty minutes and a plus / minus score of five. Just looking at the improvement of his off-season games shows how much he was able to develop throughout his time spent in the QMJHL. This would prove very effective as he is now in the ECHL with the Ghost Pirates.
So far this 2023-24 season, Joe Flemming has played four games, scoring one goal and one assist. He has taken four shots on goal, averaged one penalty minute per game, and half a point per game. There are still a lot more games left in the season, and we have already seen great things from him in the Lowcountry. He had a small fight during Sunday’s game against Greenville, and got to show his new fans just how much of a great fighter he is, and he’ll continue to do so for the rest of his time here.
