Philadelphia Flyers Preparing to Buy Out DeAngelo’s Contract

Yet another time this offseason, an NHL club is preparing to buy out the contract of their player. This time around, the Flyers are taking Tony DeAngelo to a buy out.

Anthony DeAngelo Stats

Earlier this Summer, the Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes had a deal in place to send DeAngelo to Carolina with salary retention and receive a prospect in return. Due to some CBA rules, the trade was struck down due to DeAngelo playing on the Hurricanes less than a year earlier, and the Flyers were trying to send him BACK to Carolina with retention. The obvious caveat here was that the contract he is now on is different from the one traded away from Carolina.

DeAngelo currently has one year remaining with a $5m AAV. This move would make him an unrestricted free agent if he goes through waivers unclaimed.

With a trade involving DeAngelo not happening, the Flyers had 72 hours AFTER the arbitration settlement with Noah Cates to use a buyout window.

Now the question is…where will DeAngelo land?
