
CEDAR PARK, Texas. – Monday night, the Texas Stars defeated the Abbotsford Canucks 5-2 in game three of the Western Conference Finals at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. The game saw a combined six special teams goals, including two shorthanded goals from Texas. Abbotsford now leads the series 2-1.
Christian Wolanin opened the scoring 7:41 into the first period with a one-timer from the right-wing circle while on the man advantage. Kole Lind tied the game 1-1 just over two minutes later with a wrist shot from the left-wing circle while on the power play. Matej Blümel extended the Stars’ lead late in the first period with a pair of special teams goals, the first coming on the power play and the second just over a minute later while on the penalty kill. Linus Karlsson cut the Stars’ lead to one with less than a minute remaining in the first period with a redirection while on the power play. The Stars took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission.
Antonio Stranges scored the lone goal in an evenly matched second period to give the Stars a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
Michael Karow secured the victory for the Stars early in the third period with a great solo effort on the penalty kill. Karow received a pass in the high slot, deked behind one defender, and with a diving wrist shot, beat Artūrs Šilovs high glove side.
