CEDAR PARK, Texas. – Friday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Abbotsford Canucks 2-1 in Game Five of the Western Conference Finals. With the win, the Stars staved off elimination and forced a game six in Abbotsford.

Justin Hryckowian would score the lone goal to give the Stars an early 1-0 lead in an evenly matched first period that saw both teams record nine shots on goal each.

After a scoreless second period, while on the power play, Arshdeep Bains tied the game for Abbotsford with a quick wrist shot that beat Magnus Hellberg high glove side. Neither team would be able to break the tie in regulation, and the two teams headed to overtime for the third time this series.

Stars captain Curtis McKenzie scored the game-winning goal just over two minutes into the extra period when he buried a pass from Jack Becker at the top of the crease past Artūrs Šilovs to force game six.
