NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays lost 3-2 to the Atlanta Gladiators in a shootout in front of 6,590 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday night. Charlie Combs and Austin Magera scored for the Stingrays, and goalie Garin Bjorklund saved 28 of 30 shots.

Just over 12 minutes into the first period, the Stingrays struck first. Combs 12th goal of the season was under review for a high stick, but once cleared, the Rays were on the board. Alexander Suzdalev and Micah Miller picked up the assists. With less than two minutes left in the first period, Atlanta tied the game, scoring to make it 1-1.

The Stingrays regained the lead early in the second when Magera buried a rebound off Josh Wilkins‘ shot, set up by Erik Middendorf‘s cross-ice pass. Magera’s seventh of the season was assisted by both players.

Anthony Firriolo‘s slapshot tied it 2-2. Despite power plays and chances for both teams in the third period, with South Carolina outshooting Atlanta 9-8, neither scored. The Stingrays survived Atlanta’s four-on-three overtime power play, forcing a shootout.
