NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Star Wars night, the South Carolina Stingrays lost 2-1 against the Atlanta Gladiators in front of more than 8,000 spectators, ending their five-game winning streak. Goalie Seth Eisele stopped 24 of 26 shots in the defeat, and Jace Isley scored for the Rays.

Although the Stingrays had a strong start to the game, outshooting the Gladiators 10-0, Atlanta managed to score first. The goal came from Chad Nychuk‘s shot, which deflected off a South Carolina defender and into the net, giving Atlanta a 1-0 lead.

No goals were scored in the second period, despite both teams having numerous opportunities, with Atlanta outshoting the Stingrays 10-6. The Gladiators doubled their lead on the power play 7:27 into the third period with Cody Sylvester finding the net.

The Stingrays got on the board with less than six minutes remaining in the game. Ben Hawerchuk passed the puck to Isley, who successfully lifted a shot over the glove of Atlanta’s goaltender, Drew DeRidder, bringing the score to 2-1. The goal, Isley’s fourth of the year, was assisted by Hawerchuk and Reilly Webb.
