ROANOKE, Va– Regardless of the championship outcome, the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs had a record season. The 2023-24 season holds the franchise record for the most wins, at 33. Record attendance for this season averaged around 5600 fans. Nineteen games out of fifty-six went past regulation. The record for most goals scored in a game was set, with a 12-3 win over Knoxville on March 1,2024. The Inaugural SPHL Broadcaster of the year award went to Roanoke’s Mitch Stewart. Roanoke’s Brendan Pepe was named the SPHL’s top defenseman of the year, the first for the franchise. His season saw a record 32 point increase over his 9 point season last year. He also ranked among only ten SPHL players who completed a “Ironman” season, appearing in all 56 games of the season. Both Pepe and Matt O’Dea received All SPHL honors.
For now, the countdown is on, for opening night of the 2024-25 season.
