JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tuesday morning, the Jacksonville Icemen held their second school-day game of the season and faced the visiting Bloomington Bison for the first time ever. Jacksonville prevailed in overtime to take a 2-1 victory.
It was a goaltending battle, with both netminders being put to the test. Bloomington’s Mark Sinclair stopped 40 of 42 shots, and Jacksonville’s Matt Vernon made 34 of 35 saves. Davis Koch scored at 1:26 into the game to give Jacksonville an early 1-0 lead. Bloomington tied the game up with less than four minutes left in the second period, and after no goals in the third period, the game would go to overtime. The Bison’s goal by Max Neill was his first pro career goal.
Jacksonville dominated the OT period, as Bloomington would be a man down on the penalty and kill twice during OT. Once for interference, just seven seconds in, and then at 4:10 for too many men on the ice. Jacksonville outshot them 6-0 in OT, with the captain Christopher Brown scoring the game-winner at 4:22.
